Verona - World Heritage site by the UNESCO Committee

In 2000 Verona was listed as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO Committee, being an example of an Italian city that in its urban structure and architecture is an outstanding example of a town that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality from each succeeding period.

Studying Italian in Italy and choosing Verona as the destination means being exposed to, and getting to know, a cultural and artistic heritage that is recognized at a worldwide level.

The Committee decided to inscribe this property on the World Heritage List on the basis of criteria (ii) and (iv):

Criterion (ii): In its urban structure and its architecture, Verona is an outstanding example of a town that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality from each succeeding period.

Criterion (iv):Verona represents in an exceptional way the concept of the fortified town at several seminal stages of European history.
