Students Feedback

To whom it may concern:
Unique. Normally, I have no problems writing an evaluation, but in this case it is different -why? The language institut "Linguait" at Verona is providing such an an exceptional academic knowledge and is offering organisational capabilities that is not easy to honour this fully with words.

I enrolled at the Institute for an individual language course (advanced level - four weeks); additionally I took lessons in Italian art history. During this period I had two execellent teachers: Dottoressa Laura Brena (language) and Dottore Enrico Padovani (art history).
Both teachers had an outstanding detailed knowledge of the language and the art history that made every lesson an intellectual challenge and pleasure. Noteworthy, was the combination of professionalism and personal enthusiasm. Even after the end of the course they were both always attentive for every question and open-minded for any kind of intellectual conversation. Therefore, it was easy to make an enormous progress in a relatively short period of time. Dottoressa Brena cared for every detail, concerning the grammar, the pronunciation, the comprehension and the conversational skills - grazie. Dottore Padovani's way of speaking and explaining Italian art is absolutely fascinating. You think that you find yourself almost in a conversation with the artist or painter himself - grazie.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Signore Christian. He is in charge of the administration at Linguait. Every company would be delighted, having such a manager with this kind of organisational capabilities. Due to his work and preparation every student finds an ideal academic ground and can focus completely on his studies - grazie.
I can highly recommend Linguait to everyone. I will definitely return to the institute as a language and art student. The time I have spent there, will remain unforgettable for me, and I will always be grateful for this kind of academic and personal experience.

The Verona school is small. Huge plus for me, (and as it turned out for several others in my class also, as they felt they had wasted large amounts of both time and money on another school in Verona, which was big). For example I had four in my class one week, five the next and six the next. The teachers are excellent, all of them. They also all run the school, being responsible for different areas. Each class usually changes teachers after the first three hours. That is, we had one teacher who did conversation and grammar with us for those first three hours, then another teacher came in, and we only did conversation with him. This worked extremely well.

The test they give you at the beginning for grading also worked out well. The test took a few hours, and basically it is easy to see where one's strengths and weaknesses are as the test gets harder and harder grammar wise - means there is not a huge discrepancy in levels within one class.

The personalities of the teachers are great. It is very personal. You feel you can ask them anything unrelated or related to the school. Super helpful.
The one week my husband did was with one other Polish girl in the class, two beginners, they both loved it. The reason my husband did not continue, is that he had never intended to do any in the first place, as he was also trying to run the business while we were away for 3 months. But when I went the first day, they were so welcoming and the place had such great vibes - they asked him if he was interested in just sitting in on a beginners class for the fun of it, and it grew from that. He has never looked back. He loves telling people about this school and used to come in about mid morning, use their internet facility, and chat with all the students in the common room, while we were having our break. He was most impressed. he also had lots to do with the off duty teachers in planning our other four weeks in Italy, and they were extremely supportive.
The instruction was excellent. They are very very good teachers - all been teaching for at least 5-10 years, young, enthusiastic. They ask you whether you want the lessons more grammar or conversation focused - most want both. We had lots and lots of homework. This could vary I guess from teacher to teacher, but they all give homework. I used to take about four hours to do mine or thereabouts. So with four hours tuition and homework, it is pretty full on. But then that's how to make the most of the experience.

The school arranged our accommodation. We rented a little garden apartment within 7 minutes walking distance of the school, which is centrally located, great location in fact. Beautiful old good area of Verona, walked across the Adige River each morning, along tree lined street, it was super. Apartment had one double room and at the entrance room for another bed. One bathroom, and a gorgeous back garden, full of sun. Kitchen was fully equipped, TV etc. Apartment was great. And super super quiet! Important in some of these noisy places. Verona itself in case you don't know it, is a magnificent city. I especially did not want to go anywhere large, busy and bustling, and this hit the spot, Is conveniently located to Lake Guarda, Como a bit further away if you want, Venice, but a beautiful city itself, with stacks to see.
Each saturday a daily excursion was organised to another city. Enrico, who largely is the escort is highly knowledgeable about Italy, history, art etc. and loves passing this on. He also ran the afternoon guides around Verona itself, which we always did, and absolutely loved. All this by the way is in Italian !

They organise wine tastings, drinks get togethers, movies at the school one afternoon a week - there is plenty to involve in depending on your taste - all fitted in around homework! We both absolutely loved it. We would return tomorrow. The nationalities represented there included English, Polish, Hungarian, Australians, Japanese, Venezueala, Canadians - a big cross section, and some of them dont speak english, so all instruction is in Italian.

Ciao amici,
prima di tutto perdonatemi per gli errori che ho fatto in questa lettera... sono secura che ce ne sono tanti!
Come ho promesso a Claire vi mando una vera lettera! Sritta a mano ( come nei vecchi tempi! )
C'è solo un'unica soluzione: ritornare in Italia... o meglio: ritornare a Lingua it!!!
E voi? Avete già imparato qualcosa sui veronese che non conoscevate prima???
Tanti saluti... e alla prossima!

Lucia (Svizzera)
