 In
conjunction with their monthly language courses, students at LINGUA IT
can elect to attend one of the schools extra-curricular Laboratories.
Based on student interaction and collaboration, these group workshops
are dedicated to the production of creative and artistic works in
the Italian language. The loose, collaborative nature of the Laboratories
allows students to immerse themselves in the creative process and
discover the artistic and poetic aspects of the Italian language.
All Laboratories are supervised by experienced teachers who will guide
participants through all phases of the project, from the initial concept
to the realisation of a final text, artwork or performance at the
conclusion of the four-weeks. Forced to deal with new and dynamic
ideas and language while remaining an enthusiastic and collaborative
member of a team, students who participate in LINGUA ITs Laboratories
notice a marked improvement in their language skills over a relatively
short period of time. The practical and creative demands of producing
a final work in a specified period of time, necessitates that students
communicate quickly, clearly and precisely with the other members
of the workshop. Laboratories are held in the afternoons. LINGUA IT will provide all participants
with a copy of their final work (written, audio or visual) at the
completion of the course.
Due to the collaborative nature of these workshops, a minimum number
of four students is required for a course to be activated.
The price of each Laboratory includes all materials and equipment
used.

THEATRE PERFORMANCE LABORATORY
(This Laboratory is open to students of all language levels)
During the Theatre Performance Laboratory, students will compose,
produce and workshop a theatrical composition. The final work will
be performed, at the conclusion of the four-week laboratory, for
the students and staff of the LINGUA IT institute. The subject matter,
themes and style of the theatrical piece will be determined by the
participants of the Theatre Performance Laboratory at the commencement
of the course. They will then take part in a series of language-based
improvisation sessions directly relating to the subject matter they
have selected. From these sessions, through group interaction and
editing, a text will emerge that will become the base-script for
the final production. Students will then fine tune the script and
rehearse for the final performance.
JOURNALISM LABORATORY
(This Laboratory is recommended for those with an intermediate
or advanced knowledge of Italian)
In this Laboratory, students choose the themes and issues that interest
them, within and outside the institute, and then write and edit
an edition of a small Italian newspaper including articles, reviews,
photographs, critiques etc. In the Journalism Laboratory, students
are exposed to the forms and style of expression most regularly
employed by Italian journalists. Guided by the teacher, students
work collaboratively to produce a comprehensive and legitimate version
of their own Italian newspaper. A novel and enjoyable way of learning
Italian, this course allows for lively interaction with the social
and cultural surroundings.
WRITING LABORATORY
(This Laboratory is recommended for those with an intermediate
or advanced knowledge of Italian)
The work that unfolds in this Laboratory ends with the production
of a complete and original text written collectively by the students,
wholly in Italian. Students will look for inspiration through in-depth
analysis of a range of texts varying in style, theme and format
(fiction, non-fiction, poetry, historical chronicle, literary passage,
novella, diary, letters). The Writing Laboratory encourages participants
to throw their work open for group discussion and analysis. The
collaborative nature of this Laboratory guarantees student interaction,
teamwork
and results.
DOCUMENTARY LABORATORY
(This Laboratory is open to students of all language levels)
Students of the Documentary Laboratory are guided through the
making of a short documentary film, completely of their own devising,
based on a theme than has common interest for all participants.
This Laboratory offers students an excellent opportunity to investigate
all the cultural and social aspects of Italy (and the Italians)
that have interested or intrigued them during their stay in our
country. At the completion of the course, the final documentary
will be screened to which all LINGUA IT students and staff
will be invited. Participants in this Laboratory will, of course,
be given a copy of the finalised work to take with them as a permanent
record of their experiences in Italy.
WINE AND COOKING LABORATORY
(This Laboratory is open to students of all language levels)
Easily accessible to students of all language levels, this Laboratory
offers its participants the opportunity to explore and delight in
the wonderful flavours, aromas and textures that combine to create
the unique entity that is Italian regional cuisine. The Wine and
Cooking Laboratory includes practical cooking demonstrations, sampling
sessions of typical Italian products and raw ingredients as well
as visits to various trattorias and agriturismo farms. Through it
all, students will be on a delicious sensory voyage, exploring in-depth,
the distinctive products and their particular methods of production
(from winemaking to olive oil pressing) that give Italian fare its
characteristic uniqueness. All information gathered during this
Laboratory is compiled for participants in a comprehensive local
wine and food guide, complete with reviews of all the products and
places they have visited during the course and details of the production
methods they have seen.
The times, price and structure of the Wine and Cooking Laboratory
may vary depending on the requirements and preferred itinerary of
participating students
